TBSVOW: A470, south of Brecon

Number 1 in a series of n…

I’ve decided to start a new blog series, on the bacon sarnie vans of Wales (TBSVOW). This will complement nicely my other blog series OIWCIT (Ooh I wouldn’t call it that) and Shadows of interest.

On our way back from Cardiff yesterday morning, my fellow travellers and I stopped for a bacon sarnie in the Brecons. We chose “Super Bites”, which is on the A470 above (that is, south of) Brecon.

The van itself is an unassuming structure, staffed by a friendly man who’d been selling sandwiches there for 7 years. Prior to that he’d lived in Cardiff. The service was excellent, and the sandwiches themselves were tasty – my fellow travellers went for mushroom & bacon, but I kept to the purist option of just bacon.

The view was magnificent – my phone camera does not do it justice.

Sandwich quality: 7/10. White bread roll, 2 pieces of bacon, some fat but not excessive amounts. Personally I would prefer a choice of brown bread to be available but realise that this is not a universal preference.
Service: 9/10. Very friendly.
Extras: 8/10. Sauce, tomatoes, mushrooms, egg, and sausages were available, with no surcharge for sauce.

This van may set the high watermark for visits to come… but watch this space!

To see it in Google maps check out this link – the streetview pictures look rather nice (it was winter when they drove by).
